SciREN Triangle
The Scientific Research Education Network (SciREN) is a graduate student founded and run non-profit organization that seeks to build a network to bring current research into local K-12 classrooms. We accomplish this by offering two annual events each year. These include a Lesson Plan workshop where we bring in teachers to instruct scientists on how to write an effective lesson plan about their research that meets curriculum standards, and a networking workshop where educators can interact with researchers and shop around for lesson plans to bring into their classrooms. All SciREN lesson plans, including those that I have written and posted below, are available online for free on the SciREN Portal. By fostering connections between educators and researchers, SciREN enhances STEM curriculum in local schools, improves science literacy among students, and provides an avenue for effective scientific outreach.
In 2014, I became a founding member of the Research Triangle chapter of SciREN called SciREN Triangle where I have served as the Lesson Plan Workshop director and researcher volunteer coordinator. SciREN Triangle is 2nd established chapter of SciREN and currently we host the largest events each year. Annually, we have gathered ~100 researchers and 200+ educators at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh. Come join us!

Annual Outreach Events
The Kingsolver lab's Manduca sexta caterpillars and moths and I are well known throughout the Research Triangle area. In addition to SciREN, I bring the caterpillars to annual appearances at NC Museum of Natural Sciences' Darwin Day, UNC's Females Excelling More in Mathematics, Engineering, and Science (F.E.M.M.E.S), UNC's Science Expo sponsored by the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center, and we even visit local 2nd grade classrooms throughout Chapel Hill and Durham. If you would like to schedule a classroom visit please contact me here.
